We often talk about the ecological cost of IT but not enough about how IT can help a healthy ecological development (Green for IT). In particular, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly recognized as a key tool to fight global warming and promote the energy transition in France. AI algorithms can maximize the use of renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.
In France, many industrial projects are already implementing AI to fight global warming. Here are some examples:
- EDF Smart Grid Project: This project uses AI to optimize renewable energy production by using connected sensors to monitor the status of electrical equipment. This allows power producers to better plan production and maximize the use of renewable energy.
- “Ecostruxure” from Schneider Electric: This platform uses connected sensors and machine learning algorithms to monitor energy consumption in buildings, homes, data centers, infrastructure and industries and adapt them according to actual needs. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving the energy efficiency of buildings.
- “Acropole” project of the Direction des Services de la Navigation Aérienne (DSNA): This project proposes solutions including AI to optimize flight trajectories and thus save fuel and improve the assessment and monitoring of the environmental impact of flight operations.
- SUEZ’s “Eco-industrial Park” project: This project uses AI to optimize waste treatment and resource recovery operations in industrial parks. It aims to maximize material and energy recovery from waste, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency.
In addition, AI can play a key role in the planning and implementation of energy policies in France by providing reliable data and forecasts to guide decisions.
AI will be a key tool to fight global warming and promote the energy transition in France. This is a constantly evolving field and technological advances in AI can still provide innovative solutions to current climate challenges, which K-LAGAN‘s experts are ready to address.
